I am not going to lie. I do not like winter. I do not like being cold, I do not like driving in snow, I do not like the way the trees look with their scraggly, bare branches… did I mention I do not like being cold?

Another thing I do not particularly like is winter clothing. Sweaters are only fun to wear for a short period of time before I get sick of them and then there’s the never ending layers upon layers I have to peel off every time I step indoors. Plus, I am more of a dress and skirt kind of gal and there’s only so many tights combinations that I can muster up.

Nevertheless I have had to learn how to adapt, after all Colorado’s whether can be quite crazy, by investing in winter pieces that will a. keep me warm and b. don’t make it look like I just stepped out of a lord of the rings movie. For some reason I feel like most winter clothing items are either really warm and not very cute or really cute but not practical. With that being said I have rounded up winter wear that I have found to be both.

Winter Coat

Josh bought me this coat for Christmas and it is one of my all time favorite gifts. I used to avoid wearing coats because I did not like the look of them and also did not like the idea of taking the coat off and lugging it around inside once I got to my destination. This coat has shattered all my prior notions because the material, being wool, makes it very warm and it is so pretty that I never want to take it off. I also love that it is both casual and classy. I can wear it with jeans and tennis shoes and look put together or wear it over a dress for a fancier occasions. The best part is this coat is on sale right now for 60% off, so don’t wait, sale ends 1/16/20.

Wool Mittens

Is it just me or do mittens keep your hands so much warmer than regular gloves?

These Wool mittens are the warmest thing I have ever put my hands in, they are even warmer than my skiing gloves (just not water proof). Still I was able to wear them snowshoeing a couple weeks back and my hands stayed toasty warm.

Waterproof Boots

Yeah I know I have raved about these boots before. I have had my Sorel Slimpack boots for 5 years now and they are still in great shape. Warm, cute, and waterproof… what more could I ask for?

Long Underwear

Smartwool is by far my favorite brand for warm under garments. Whether it be snowshoeing, skiing, or any other outdoors activity on a chilly day, Smartwool is my go to for keeping warm. Most of their garments are made out of 100% Merino wool, which means they can be washed and dried without shrinking. They also come in many styles and patterns to suite your own unique style.

Comfy Socks

My obsession with comfy socks continues. My obsession with Smartwool also continues. Did you know they also make socks in addition to base layers?
